Regional Project

This project proposes a new process-chain and a systemic integrated solution towards the automated, zero-waste treatment of PCBs, that is enabled by the development and set-up of new intelligent disassembly, shredding/separation, metal and non-metal fraction recovery technologies.

Project details
The quality of outdoor spaces is a critical point in the sustainable development of the cities. The INTEGRATE project aims at promoting the European initiative, shared by Lombardy Region, regarding "Smart Cities and Communities" through an approach bringing together technological development and research and monitoring activities for urban areas in order to identify critical situations (e.g. environmental, acoustic pollution, etc.), consider possible technological solutions and increase those innovative activities that may help solving critical issues as well as attracting economic assets and professional capitals.

The main lines of research proposed are focused on the integrated environmental management of urban and metropolitan areas, with a view to the Smart Cities concept and in order to fulfill the purposes of the reference cluster"Technologies for Smart Communities" and of the Technological Districts of Lombardy "Sustainable Building" and "Energy, Renewable and Similar Sources".

The first phase of the research project, which involves the development of technological solutions to be implemented at urban and micro-urban scale, includes monitoring the territory and studying new methodological approaches concerning the issues of environmental quality and reduction of energy consumptions. The outcome of these research activities sets the basis for the development of a tool aiming at evaluating urban scale sustainability to support, at a larger scale, public authorities planners and all the actors involved in the development and/or redevelopment of urban areas during the design phase.

The project sets the cooperation of five CNR-Institutes:

Construction Technologies Institute (ITC), Institute for Energy and Interphases (IENI), Water Research Institute (IRSA), Research Institute on Sustainable Economic Growth (IRCrES, former CERIS) and IMATI.
