RESEARH ACTIVITIES

My research and university teaching activities are mainly focused on the definition of data-driven models and algorithms for a hierarchical paradigm for the modelling, analysis, and simulation for 3D and multidimensional data, with a focus on geometric modelling and computational graphics. My overall research goal is the definition of a hierarchical paradigm for modelling and analysing 3D shapes and multi-dimensional data, with applications to computer graphics, computer vision, geographic information systems, medicine, and bio-informatics. Main applications of my research and project activities include computer graphics, geographic information systems, and bio-medicine. More recently, the results of my activities have been applied to the

- study and development of methods, algorithms, and services for modelling, integrating, and analysing large, heterogeneous geo-spatial data and for monitoring critical events, such as rainfalls and landslides. To this end, innovative algorithms have been developed to extract multi-resolution and feature-preserving representations of large 3D terrain models and to approximate heterogeneous data (e.g., time-varying rainfall field and radar data over 3D terrains models);

- study and development of new technologies to improve the diagnosis of inflammatory and/or degenerative musculoskeletal disorders and cancer (e.g., breast, thyroid). Specifically, my research activity is focused on the development of innovative algorithms for the processing, modelling, and analysis of MRI, CT, and elasto-sonographic images, by combining algorithmic and semantic approaches.
